3 Day Great White Shark Diving Tour in Gansbaai
The ultimate Great White Shark Diving Package!
Day 1: Cape Town to Gansbaai, South Africa
The Shark Cage Diving Adventure commences with the collection of participants from prominent locations in Cape Town at the crack of dawn. We depart the picturesque metropolis of Cape Town and travel southeast toward Gansbaai, which is situated in the picturesque Overberg Region of South Africa.
The journey from Cape Town to Gansbaai is approximately two hours in duration, and it traverses the picturesque Hottentots-Holland Mountains, passing by picturesque lakes and wine plantations in the verdant Western Cape countryside. We proceed along the precipitous coast, passing through Hermanus, which is one of the most exceptional land-based whale-watching destinations in the world. From this renowned whale hotspot, we proceed to the fishing hamlet of Gansbaai, where our Great White Shark Adventure is conducted. We proceed to the Kleinbaai region of Gansbaai, which is considered the “Great White Capital of the World.”
Upon arrival at our state-of-the-art headquarters, a continental breakfast is provided, along with either tea or coffee. A comprehensive briefing regarding the dive, safety procedures, and great white sharks is conducted at the center prior to the boat excursion. Afterward, we take to the sea in our custom-built catamaran and commence a 25-minute voyage to the Dyer Island area, where we anchor.
The stainless steel cage, which is specifically designed, is submerged in the water at a depth of approximately one meter, where it remains securely fastened to the boat. It is now time to don your designated wetsuit, booties, windbreaker, weight belt, and mask in anticipation of your dive. This is the point at which the adrenaline surge commences.
The personnel assists you in entering the cage, where your head remains above water until you choose to descend to observe the sharks swimming by. The crew of the boat raises the alarm when a shark is observed approaching, and you descend beneath the water’s surface to observe the graceful predator up close. You determine the duration of time you wish to remain submerged. Great white sharks are frequently observed off Dyer Island throughout the year, with a success rate of approximately 99% during this excursion.
We spend approximately two hours at sea, replenishing our energy with beverages and snacks (including hot chocolate, chips, cool beverages, and bread rolls). The sturdy enclosure accommodates eight individuals in a manner that is both comfortable and conducive to watching the sharks underwater for an extended period of time. The expansive upper and lower platforms provide unparalleled photographic opportunities and offer the opportunity to observe the sharks when they are not submerged in the water. Following our exhilarating encounter with the great white sharks, we will briefly traverse Shark Alley, provided that the weather permits. Shark Alley is distinguished by the profusion of sharks that are attracted to the channel to prey on the Cape Fur Seals of Geyser Rock, a breeding colony of approximately 60,000 seals.
Hot soup and bread are served in the presence of a cozy hearth and heaters on the shore during the debriefing and great white shark conservation roundup. Subsequently, you are at liberty to unwind and investigate Kleinbaai and the remainder of Gansbaai. Our guesthouse accommodations are located at the headquarters or in close proximity, allowing you to dine at the a la carte restaurant or in town at your own expense.
Day 2 and 3: Cage diving, Transfer back from Cape town to Gansbaai
We descend to the Kleinbaai natural harbor after a satisfying breakfast at the guesthouse and embark on the catamaran for our second shark cage diving excursion. Be vigilant for other marine life while savoring the refreshing sea breeze and breathtaking scenery at sea. Several bird species, as well as two or more of the Marine Big Five (sharks, dolphins, whales, seals, and penguins), are typically observed during boat excursions.
We once again embark on a journey to Dyer Island in search of additional close-up encounters with great white sharks. We return to the center for a debriefing, hot soup, and bread following our morning expedition. The remainder of the day is at your leisure to relax and explore at your leisure. You may opt to dine at the shark center’s restaurant or dine out in Gansbaai.
Day three will adhere to the same itinerary as day two, with the exception of our return to Cape Town following our debriefing and heated refreshments.
This unforgettable shark cage diving experience concludes with your return to the stunning city of Cape Town, where you are dropped off at a central location.
