3 Days Murchison Big Five Safari: Detailed Itinerary

 Day 1: Arrival and Murchison Falls National Park

You will be transferred from the airport or your lodge in Kampala or Entebbe to Murchison Falls National Park on a drive which will take about 5 hours. When you reach you will have lunch and you’ll embark on an afternoon game drive through the park, accompanied by an experienced guide.
Murchison Falls National Park is renowned for its diverse wildlife, including four of the “Big Five” (lion, elephant, buffalo, and leopard), along with a plethora of other species such as giraffes, antelopes, and various bird species.
During the game drive, keep your eyes peeled for sightings of lions lounging in the savannah, herds of elephants roaming through the grasslands, and buffalos grazing peacefully. Your guide will provide fascinating insights into the behavior and ecology of the animals you encounter.
After the exhilarating game drive, return to your accommodation for a delicious dinner and overnight stay, surrounded by the sounds of the African wilderness.

Day 2: Boat Safari and Exploration

Wake up early to catch the sunrise over the Nile River as you embark on a boat safari towards the base of Murchison Falls. This boat safari offers a unique perspective, allowing you to observe wildlife such as hippos, crocodiles, and a variety of bird species along the riverbanks.
As you approach Murchison Falls, marvel at the sheer power of the Nile as it plunges through a narrow gorge, creating a breathtaking spectacle. Keep your camera ready to capture the awe-inspiring scenery and the abundant wildlife that inhabits the area.
After the boat safari, enjoy a picnic lunch in the park before continuing your exploration with another game drive. This afternoon game drive provides another opportunity to encounter the park’s iconic wildlife, perhaps spotting elusive leopards or rare species such as the Rothschild’s giraffe.
As the sun sets, return to your accommodation for a well-deserved dinner and a chance to share stories of your day’s adventures around the campfire.

Day 3: Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary

After breakfast, bid farewell to Murchison Falls National Park and embark on a journey to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, located approximately two hours away. Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary is a critical conservation area dedicated to the protection and breeding of endangered white rhinos.
Upon arrival at Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary, you’ll be greeted by knowledgeable guides who will accompany you on a walking safari to track the rhinos in their natural habitat. This immersive experience allows you to observe these magnificent creatures up close while learning about the conservation efforts being undertaken to safeguard their future.
As you trek through the sanctuary, listen to the fascinating stories about each rhino’s unique personality and behaviour, and take plenty of photographs to commemorate this unforgettable encounter.
After the rhino tracking excursion, enjoy a leisurely lunch at the sanctuary’s visitor centre before beginning your journey back to your departure point, reflecting on the incredible wildlife encounters and conservation initiatives you’ve experienced over the past three days.
