Day 16: Zanzibar to Dar es Salaam & Bagamoyo – Tanzania
Our East Africa adventure with Adventure In The Wild Safaris continues as we leave the tropical paradise of Zanzibar. We take the return ferry to Dar es Salaam where we reunite with our overland truck. From here, we travel north to the historic coastal town of Bagamoyo, a place where traditional dhow boats are still crafted by hand. The name “Bagamoyo” means “Lay down your heart” in Swahili, symbolizing its poignant past as a major trading hub for ivory, salt, and slaves.

Day 17: Bagamoyo to Arusha – Tanzania
Today, we travel inland towards Arusha, located in the foothills of Mount Meru. Arusha is the gateway to the Northern Safari Circuit and the perfect launch point for adventures into Serengeti National Park and Ngorongoro Crater. This bustling town is also a popular base for trekkers attempting Mount Kilimanjaro. In the evening, prepare a smaller overnight bag for our upcoming 3-night safari experience in 4×4 safari vehicles.

Day 18: Arusha to Karatu – Tanzania
We leave Arusha behind and travel through scenic landscapes towards Karatu, situated between Lake Manyara and Ngorongoro Crater. Along the way, we visit the colorful Mto wa Mbu market, where locals sell produce and handcrafted goods. Once in Karatu, we check into our safari camp and receive a briefing about tomorrow’s Ngorongoro Crater adventure.

Day 19: Ngorongoro Crater & Serengeti National Park – Tanzania

We descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for a full-day 4×4 game drive, encountering a dense population of large mammals. Later, we travel into the legendary Serengeti National Park, enjoying an en-route game drive before arriving at our tented safari camp in Seronera, known for its wildlife-rich central plains.

Day 20: Serengeti National Park (Seronera) – Tanzania

Day 22: Arusha to Nairobi – Kenya
Heading north, we cross the border into Kenya. On clear days, we may catch a glimpse of Mount Kilimanjaro en route. Our destination is Nairobi, Kenya’s capital city, known for its vibrant markets, eateries, and nightlife. Be sure to pack an overnight bag for tomorrow’s Masai Mara safari.

Day 23: Nairobi to Masai Mara National Reserve – Kenya
We transfer into 4×4 safari vehicles and drive through the Great Rift Valley to the world-renowned Masai Mara, often described as Africa’s top safari destination. This region is home to the Maasai people and offers iconic wildlife encounters across sprawling savannahs.

Day 24: Masai Mara National Reserve – Kenya
Today is dedicated to game viewing in the Masai Mara. Explore this rich ecosystem in search of the Big Five and other African species. Day 27: Jinja to Masindi & Murchison Falls – Uganda
We travel northwest toward Masindi and Murchison Falls National Park. Along the way, there is an optional visit to Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary for a guided walk in search of endangered rhinos. Our lodge near Masindi offers comfort before tomorrow’s primate and wildlife excursions.

Day 28: Chimpanzee Trekking in Budongo Forest – Uganda
Today is a highlight of your Adventure In The Wild Safaris itinerary. In the morning, we go chimpanzee trekking in the pristine Budongo Forest Reserve, home to around 700 chimps. In the afternoon, embark on a Nile River cruise to the base of Murchison Falls, a dramatic cascade of white water plunging through a narrow gorge.

Day 29: Masindi to Lake Kikorongo – Uganda
We begin our journey towards Lake Kikorongo, perched on a hill offering stunning views over this crater lake on the edge of Queen Elizabeth National Park. This iconic park is famous for its tree-climbing lions, volcanic rock landscapes, and diverse wildlife. Visitors can expect to encounter hippos, Nile crocodiles, elephants, buffalos, lions, chimpanzees, and over 500 species of birds.

Day 30: Lake Kikorongo to Lake Bunyonyi – Uganda
Crossing the equator, we travel southwest toward the Rwanda border to the breathtaking Lake Bunyonyi. Nestled in the heart of gorilla country, Lake Bunyonyi is one of Africa’s deepest lakes and a prime location for birdwatching and water-based activities. Surrounded by lush green hills and dotted with 29 islands, it’s a perfect base for your Gorilla Safari in Uganda. A briefing on the gorilla trekking experience will be conducted this evening.

Day 31 & 32: Mountain Gorilla Trekking – Uganda
These two days are dedicated to the highlight of your adventure – a Gorilla Safari in Uganda. The endangered mountain gorillas can be found in the dense forests of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. With only around 800 individuals remaining globally, gorilla trekking is highly regulated through a permit system to ensure their conservation. If permits in Uganda are unavailable, the trek may take place in Rwanda or the DRC.
You will be accompanied by experienced rangers in small groups, tracking a gorilla family through rugged mountain terrain. The trek can be challenging, but the reward is a once-in-a-lifetime encounter with these majestic primates. On your non-trekking day, enjoy Lake Bunyonyi with activities such as kayaking, hiking, or visiting a nearby pygmy village.

The park is home to five scenic lakes and over 300 bird species, including the elusive shoebill stork. Enjoy a relaxing evening at a lodge on the park’s edge, perfect for birdwatching and scenic views.

Day 34 & 35: Lake Mburo to Jinja – Uganda
We return to Jinja, Uganda’s adventure capital, for two nights of leisure and excitement. Located on the banks of the Victoria Nile near Kalagala Falls, our camp offers both tranquility and adventure. Optional activities include white-water rafting, kayaking, river bugging, and boat cruises. For land-based thrills, try bungee jumping, horseback riding, or quad biking.

Wildebeest Great Migration
The Wildebeest Migration is a seasonal event. The herds travel between Masai Mara and Serengeti in a circular path covering approximately 1,200 miles. This movement varies yearly and cannot be guaranteed. Please consult Adventure In The Wild Safaris for more details and timing.
