25 Days Long Uganda Birding Safari: Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Entebbe

As the sun rises over the horizon, casting golden hues across the landscape, you touch down at Entebbe International Airport, filled with anticipation for the adventure that awaits. Welcomed by the warm embrace of Uganda’s hospitality, you’re greeted by your knowledgeable guide who will accompany you throughout this incredible journey. After a smooth transfer to your hotel, you settle in, eager to begin your exploration of Uganda’s diverse avian wonders. Depending on your time of arrival, in the afternoon visit Uganda Wildlife Education Centre (UWEC) situated at the shores of Lake Victoria. It’s basically a center for learning purposes. There are several animals and bird species you will see while here.
Bird to look out for here include the Peacock, Common Ostrich, Grosbeak Weaver, Black-headed Gonolek, Long-tailed Cormorant, Kingfishers and Egyptian goose, African Firefinch Grey-crowned cranes, African fish eagle, Palm-nut Vulture, African grey parrot, Pink-backed Pelicans, White-chested Sunbird, Double throated Barbet, Speckled Tinkerbird, Yellow-fronted Tinkerbird, Yellow-rumped Tinkerbird, Eastern grey plantain-Eater, Orange weaver, Black-headed Weaver and many more. Day 2: Morning canoe ride in Kabamba swamp and transfer to lake Mburo National Park.

Wake up and have morning breakfast thereafter, embark on a journey to Mabamba Swamp, a haven for wetland birds and home to the elusive Shoebill. The canoe ride will last for about will last for about 4-5 hours with expert guidance, you navigate the intricate network of waterways, scanning the reed beds for signs of this iconic bird.
Other bird species include; Papyrus Gonolek, Lesser jacana, African Pygmy goose, Gull-bellied tern, Blue breasted bee-eater, Malachite Kingfisher, Fan-tailed Widowbird, Happy Heron, Grey-hooded Gull, Grey headed Heron, Squacco Heron, Knob-billed Duck, Long-toed Lapwing, Carruther’s cisticola, White winged warbler, Blue Swallow, Pallid harrier, Swamp flycatcher, Palm-nut Vulture and Viellot’s Grosbeak, Black headed Northern brown-throated and Clarke’s weavers among others. After the canoe boat, continue with the journey to Queen Elizabeth national park driving through the equator where you will have stop over for photoshoot and other experiments. You will also have lunch enroute and then proceed to Lake Mburo arriving in the evening. On arrival, drive and check into the lodge for the rest of the afternoon.

Day 3: Half day birding and evening boat ride in Lake Mburo National Park

Rise up early and have breakfast by 7:30am and thereafter, embark on 4-5 hours birding experience in Lake Mburo national park. Lake Mburo comprise of wetland and Acacia savanna Sanctuary which is habitat to over 350 bird species. The park has also got 13 other lakes in this area, five of which and nested within the park boundaries.
Common bird sightings here include; Red faced Barbet and African Finfoot which are only seen in lake Mburo. Others include; Red-faced barbet, Papyrus gonolek, Pied kingfisher, Black-bellied bustard, Blue-breasted kingfisher, Saddle-billed stork, Yellow-rumped tinkerbird, Speckled mousebird, Carruthers’s cisticola, Greater painted-snipe, Bare-faced go-away-bird, Papyrus yellow warbler, striped kingfisher, Malachite kingfisher, African wattled lapwing, Blue-headed coucal, Black-headed gonolek, Brown-chested lapwing, Trilling cisticola among others.
Lake Mburo is also an excellent park for mammals hosting over 68 Species the nature walk will offer you an opportunity to explore the animals in the park including the Rothchild’s giraffes, the Topis, elands, water bucks, Buffalos, Burchell’s Zebra, Impala and Warthogs. Return to the lodge for lunch.
In the evening go on a 2:00pm boat cruise on Lake Mburo to search for the African cousin of the Neotropical Sungrebe, the rare and elusive African Finfoot on a lucky day you will also spot the White-backed Night Heron. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Drive from Lake Mburo to Mgahinga Gorilla national park

Continuing your exploration of Uganda’s southwestern highlands, you venture into Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, a sanctuary nestled against the towering peaks of the Virunga Mountains. Here, amidst the lush montane forests, you embark on birding excursions, seeking out elusive endemics such as the Rwenzori Turaco and the Handsome Francolin. Dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.

Day 5: Whole day Birding in Mgahinga National Park

As the first light of dawn kisses the mist-laden slopes of Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, a symphony begins to unfold. It’s not the booming roar of lions or the trumpet of elephants, but a delicate chorus of chirps, tweets, and calls that fill the air. Here, amidst the towering peaks and dense forests of southwestern Uganda, lies a haven for avian enthusiasts, a place where every fluttering wing tells a story of beauty and resilience.
The day begins early for the avid birder, as the sun peeks over the horizon, casting golden hues upon the verdant landscape. Armed with binoculars, field guides, and an insatiable curiosity, they set out into the wilderness, eager to explore the rich diversity of birdlife that calls this place home.
The trek takes you along winding trails that meander through a mosaic of habitats, from lush montane forests to open grasslands and cascading streams. With each step, they immerse themselves in nature’s tapestry, their senses heightened to the slightest rustle or flutter. As you traverse the forest floor, shafts of sunlight pierce through the dense canopy, illuminating a kaleidoscope of colors. Vibrant plumage flashes amidst the greenery as elusive species dart from branch to branch. The melodious trill of the African green broadbill echoes through the trees, its emerald feathers blending seamlessly with the foliage.
Venturing deeper into the heart of the park, the landscape transforms once again, giving way to the open expanse of the bamboo forest. Here, the air is alive with the chatter of mountain gorillas, their gentle grunts serving as a backdrop to the avian symphony. High above, the distinctive call of the Rwenzori turaco reverberates through the canopy, its crimson wings a striking contrast against the sea of green.
As the day unfolds, the birder’s list grows ever longer, each sighting a testament to the park’s incredible biodiversity. From the majestic crowned crane to the diminutive sunbird, each species plays its part in the intricate web of life that thrives in this protected sanctuary.
But birding in Mgahinga Gorilla National Park is not just about ticking off species; it’s about forging a connection with the natural world, about immersing oneself in the sights and sounds of a landscape untouched by time. Later evening, you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 6: Birding in Mgahinga to Echuya Forest Reserve.

Aft er morning breakfast, with your parked lunch, drive to the nearby Echuya Reserve for birding Excursion. While in the forest, you will go on 3-4 birding encounter. The forest spans up to the hilly terrain between the spectacular Lake Bunyonyi and Kisoro measuring about 34kilometers. Echuya Forest is a habitat to over 150 bird species with 18 Albertine Rift Endemics. Expect to see the Regal Sunbird, White-starred robin, Greenbul, Mountain masked Apalis, Strange Weaver, Long-tailed bared cuckoo, Shelly’s, greenbul, Chestnut-throated, Apalis, Rwenzori Batis among others.

Day 7: Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National park-Ruhija sector

The next leg of your journey takes you to the mist-shrouded slopes of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, home to Uganda’s most famous residents – the endangered Mountain Gorillas. While the primary focus may be on these magnificent primates, the forest canopy resonates with the calls of countless bird species, including the rare African Green Broadbill and the vibrant Bar-tailed Trogon.
Upon arrival in the lodge, check in for lunch and brief rest. In the afternoon, you will go 2 hours walk along the public road through Ruhija for a chance to see several bird species. Bird species associated to this area include; Dusky Crimsonwing, Lagden’s bush shrike and handsome francolin. After, you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.
Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is UNESCO World Heritage site harboring several bird species. The forest is a home to over 350 bird species and 23 of which are libertine Rift endemic. Including the Shelley’s Crimsonwing, Dusky Crimsonwing, Blue headed Sunbird, Regal Sunbird, Rwenzori double-collared sunbird, Purple breasted sunbird, Swamp warbler, Rwenzori Apalis, Grauer’s, Neumann’s, Archer’s robin-chat, Red-throated alethe, Dwarf honeyguide, Kivu ground thrush, African green broadbill, handsome Francolin, Rwenzori turaco and several others.
Bwindi forest has got also half of the world’s remaining population of the mountain gorillas reside here as well as 120 mammal species and 10 primate species including the chimpanzees, Black and white colobus monkeys, grey-cheeked mangabeys, vervets’ ad LHoest’s monkeys. In addition to smaller primates, their also some mammal species found here including; forest elephants, duikers, giant forest hogs, Bush hogs, Bush pigs, Civet, Golden cats, jackals.

Day 8: Birding In Ruhija sector towards the Mubwindi Swamp.

Wake up and have morning breakfast thereafter, with your packed lunch, embark on full day birding exploration through the beautiful hilly forested landscapes of Ruhija up to the famous Mubwindi Swamp. The walk takes you through the trail head to the swampy area that harbors 20 bird species that are Rift valley endemics. Bird species sighted here include; Handsome Francolin, African Wood Owl, Rwenzori Nightjar, Bar-tailed Trogon, Black Bee-eater, Western Green Tinkerbird, Dwarf Honeyguide, Fine-banded Woodpecker, African Green Broadbill, Grey Cuckoo-shrike, Shelly’s Greenbul, Yellow-streaked Greenbul Red-throated Alethe, Archer’s Robin-Chat, White-bellied Robin-Chat, Kivu Ground-Thrush, Mountain Yellow Warbler, Grauer’s Rush Warbler, Red-faced Woodland Warbler, Short tailed Warbler, Black-faced Rufous Warbler, Grauer’s Warbler, Chestnut-throated Apalis, Collared Apalis, Mountain Masked Apalis Yellow-eyed Black Flycatcher, Chapin’s Flycatcher, Rwenzori Batis, Strip-breasted Tit, Tit Hylia, Purple-breasted Sunbird, Blue-headed Sunbird, Regal Sunbird, Lagden’s Bush Shrike, Doherty’s Bush Shrike Montane Oriole, Strange Weaver, Brown-capped Weaver, Red-fronted Antpecker, Dusky Twinspot, Dusky Crimsonwing, Shelley’s Crimsonwing among others.
During the trek, you will also see many primate’s species including the Black and white colobus monkeys and Lhoest’s monkeys as well as other forest animals like the elephants among others. You will return to the lodge in the evening for dinner and overnight stay.

Destination: Ruhija Sector, Mubwindi Swamp

Day 9: Birding in Ruhija sector to Buhoma sector of Bwindi through the Neck.

You will have morning breakfast and thereafter, with your packed lunch go on birding experience in Buhoma sector Of Bwindi. Buhoma sets at the lower elevation and simply a better site for birding experience. As you trek through the trails, you will encounter several bird species including the Albertine Boubou Archer’s-chat, the brightly- colored White-starred Robin, steaky see eater, strange weavers and Kandt’s Waxbills among others.
The journey continues to Buhoma through the ‘’Neck’’ which is the narrow strip of the forest which connects the southern and Northern portions of the national park. While here, you will spot several animals including the Ross’s turaco or lady Ross’s turaco, Western Bronze-napped, pigeon, Petit’s Cuckooshrike shrike, Cinnamon-chested bee-eater, Cassin’s honey bird. White-chinned Prinia, Dapper brown-capped weaver, pink-footed puff back, sunbird, Chubb’s Cisticola among others.
Arriving in Buhoma in the afternoon, check in to the lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 10: Full day birding in Buhoma sector of Bwindi

Have morning breakfast and by 7:00am, you will embark on a search for bird species in Buhoma sector of Bwindi. Following the magical water trail. You may decide to carry your packed lunch or return to the lodge for lodge as you prepare for more birding in the afternoon.
The bird species sighted here include; Grauer’s Warbler, Black bee eater, Red-throated Alethe, African broadbill, Dusky tit, Sooty Flycatcher, Banded Prinia, Neumann’s Warbler, Black-faced Rufous-warbler, Northern double-collared Sunbird, Brown-caped Weaver, Yellow bellied Shrike Flycatchers, Common Stonechat, yellow belied, Spotted Barberts, Ayre’s Hawk eagle, Black and white Shrike Flycatcher, Brwon-throated Wattle-eyes, Tullberg’s Woodpeckers, Ansorge’s greenbul and Jameson’s Antpecker.
You will also be able to see other primate species including the Black and white colobus, LHoest’s and blue and red-tailed monkeys. After dinner you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 11: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

You will start the day with morning breakfast and thereafter, head to Queen Eizabeth national park through the Ishasha sector famous for the tree climbing lions and on a lucky day, you will see them hanging on trees. On arrival at the Ishasha sector, you will do birding along the way where you will spot several bird species including; Yellow Bishop, Southern Red Bishops, Red-collared Widowbird, Augur Buzzard, Grey-caped Warbler, Mackinnon’s Fiscal, Black headed waxbill, Senegal Coucal, Red Chested Cuckoo and African Long Crested Eagle and many more. Dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.

Day 12: Morning Birding and Afternoon Kazinga channel Boat cruise

Wake up for morning breakfast early by 6:30 am an after, embark on 3-4 hours birding excursion along the Kasenyi plains game tracks as you get to enjoy scenic views and amazing equatorial Africa sunrise as well as rewarding game species, and several bird species living in the park. While here, you will be exposed to several bird species including; Africa’s most spectacular raptor, Gret kestrel, Grey-crowned Crane, Black-rumped Buttonquail, Helmeted guinea fowls, Red-necked Francolin, African Crakes, Senegal Lapwing, Black Coucal, Blue breasted Bee-eater, Southern Red Bishop, Marsh Tchagra, Flappet, Red-capped and white-tailed Larks as well as Red-faced Trilling, Croaking among others. Return to the lodge for lunch.
In the afternoon, go on 2-hour boat cruise along the 40km along the Kazinga channel which connects lake Gorge to Lake Edward. While on the boat, you will view different mammal species including the African bush elephants, African Buffalos, Crocodiles, and School of Hippos in the water.
You will also see several bird species like the African open billed, Saddle-billed, yellow-billed, Marabou storks, African spoonbill, Glossy Ibis, Wattled Lapwing, Water Thick-knee, Pink backed pelicans, African skimmer, Great Cormorant, Madagascar Bee-eater among others. Later evening, you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 13: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park

Leaving behind the rugged terrain of the highlands, you descend into the verdant embrace of Kibale Forest National Park, renowned for its remarkable primate diversity. As you trek through the forest trails. O in search of chimpanzees, your senses are serenaded by the symphony of bird calls echoing through the canopy. From the vibrant Great Blue Turaco to the diminutive African Pygmy Kingfisher, every sighting is a testament to the park’s ecological richness.

Day 14: Birding and Optional Chimpanzee tracking in kibale forest National Park.

Wake up for morning breakfast by 6:00am and after, head out to the park at Kanyanchu where you will be accompanied by the expert bird guides for bird watching experience. You will encounter several bird species with our top avian target being the rare Green-breasted Pitta one of Africa’s ultimate avian prizes. They tend to display mostly at sunrise therefore, we will be out early enough before the first light to position us at their territory.
You will also encounter a variety of other bird species and several primate species including; the red colobus monkeys, LHoest’s monkey, Black and White colobus monkeys, Red tailed monkeys, Blue Monkeys, Grey-cheeked mangabeys and olive baboons. We will return to the lodge for lunch.
In the afternoon, we will continue with bird watching or opt for Chimpanzee trekking experience. Which involves tracking the chimps in the forest which lasts for about 2-3 hours depending on the movement of the chimps and then one hour to observe them in their natural habitat.

Day 15: Transfer to Semuliki National Park and Birding along the Sempaya Trail.

Your journey takes you further off the beaten path as you venture into Semliki National Park, a hidden gem nestled within the Albertine Rift Valley. Here, amidst the dense rainforests and bubbling hot springs, you encounter a mosaic of avian life, including the iconic White-crested Hornbill and the elusive Nkulengu Rail. Immersed in the park’s pristine wilderness, you gain a deeper appreciation for Uganda’s extraordinary biodiversity. Upon arrival at the park, you will proceed to the lodge where you will check in for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 16: A full day Birding Along the Kirumia Trail of Semuliki National Park

Have breakfast by 7:30 am and carry your packed lunch and head out to Semuliki national park for a full day birding experience along Kirumia trail. This 13-kilometer trail passes through north from Kirumia on the man Bundibugyo Road to the banks of Semuliki River, crossing Kirumia River twice as well as along the succession of the forest-fringe ox-bow lake. While here, you will encounter a variety of bird species. Along the kirumia river, birds destine to this area include; the Africa Piculet, Long-Tailed Hawk, Red- sided Broad bill, Lemon Billed Crombec and Black-faced, Rufous Warbler among others, are always spotted here.
Other bird species spotted here but can also be seen else where in Uganda including; Spot-Breasted Ibis, Black throated Coucal, Yellow- Throated Cuckoo, Grant’s Bluebill, Hartlaub’s Duck and White- Throated Blue, Swallow, Lyre Tailed Honeyguide, Grey Ground Thrush, Blue-Billed Malimbe, Maxwell’s Black Weaver, Hartlaub’s Duck and White-Throated Blue Swallow are Residents to Semuliki River.
The trail walk starts at 8:00am and takes about 8 hours trip from the park headquarters at Ntandi, where you will return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 17: Birding in Semuliki national park and Boat Trip on Lake Albert.

You will early morning breakfast and by 8:00am, you will embark on another whole day birding experience in semuliki through the Sempaya trail. It measures about 8km long and takes about 2-4 hours hike with the starting point at Sempaya Information Centre. This trail also leads to cluster of bubbling hot springs at Sempaya comprising of the forest and Palm trees which are availed in the cloud of steam one of the best sites in park. You will encounter several other primate species like Red tailed monkeys, Grey-cheeked mangabeys and Black and White colobus monkeys are commonly spotted.
You will also take on A 30-minute hike through palm trees from the main road which leads to the inner springs dominated by boiling geyser. Take care of the emerging waters has temperatures be more than 100 degrees Celsius and the surrounding pool is hot. Eggs and matooke can be boiled in the pool and enjoyed by the hikers.
Birds’ species associated to this area include; Red-rumbed tinkerbird, Yellow-throated tinkerbird, Black-casqued wattled hornbill, Blue-breasted kingfisher, Black dwarf hornbill, White-crested Hornbill, Red billed dwarf hornbill, Piping Hornbill, Frasier’s ant-thrush and honeyguide greenbul among others. After you will have lunch and brief relaxation.
In the afternoon, you will go for 2-hour boat ride on lake Albert where you will be able to see the area and elusive shoe bill as well as the crocodiles, hippos, waterfowl and several other bird species. Return to the lodge for relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 18: Birding in Toro- Semuliki Wildlife Reserve.

Wake up and have morning breakfast and thereafter, 8:00am, you will embark on another full day birding experience in Toro-semuliki Reserve. The park is Uganda’s oldest reserve with several mammal species and also a haven for bird lovers with over 425 recorded bird species.
Birds’ species sighted here include; the Red-throated bee- eater, Standard winged nightjar, Red-necked falcon, African openbill, Great-white pelican, green wood-hoopoe, Double-toothed Barbet, Broad-billed roller, Black coucal, Broad-billed roller, Black-chinned quail finch, Blue-breasted bee-eater, African pygmy goose, Black-billed Barbet, Abyssinian ground hornbill among others.
Whie in the forest, you will also spot several mammals including the Uganda Kob, Buffalos, Elephants, Water bucks, Black and white colobus monkeys, Olive baboons, Vervet monkeys, Red tailed monkeys. You will retrieve in the evening and drive back to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 19: Transfer from Semuliki to Masindi.

You will have a relaxed breakfast at around 9:00am and thereafter, check out of the lodge and drive to Masindi town. You will do birding along the way at several locations. You will have lunch enroute, continue to the lodge arriving in the afternoon, check in and spend the rest of the afternoon at leisure. Budongo forest covers an area of about 825km2 and harbors 360 bird species as well as 800 Chimpanzees and several monkeys.

Day 20: Ful day Birding in Budongo Forest Reserve- Busingiro area and the Royal Mile.

Start your day before dawn to catch the chorus of birdsong as the forest awakens. Look out for the Yellow-mantled Weaver, Black-billed Turaco, White-thighed Hornbill, and Nahan’s Francolin among others. You will be accompanied by the bird guide with the knowledge of elusive species and provide insights into the forest ecology.
Enjoy a picnic breakfast amidst the tranquil surroundings of the forest, surrounded by chirping birds and lush greenery. Continue with the trek towards the Royal Mile, a renowned birding hotspot in Budongo Forest. Spend time scanning the canopy for canopy-dwelling species such as the Chocolate-backed Kingfisher, Yellow-browed Camaroptera, and Grey-throated Flycatcher.
Explore the various specialized habitats along the trail, including swampy areas, dense undergrowth, and riverine forests, each harboring unique bird species. Exercise patience and keen observation skills as you search for elusive forest inhabitants like the African Dwarf Kingfisher, Chestnut-capped Flycatcher, and Blue-breasted Kingfisher.
Take a break for lunch, either a packed meal or at a designated spot within the forest reserve.
In the afternoon, resume birding focusing on different areas or revisiting spots where you hope to catch glimpses of species you missed earlier. Check around water sources for bird activity, including puddles, streams, and small ponds where birds come to drink and bathe. As the day draws to a close, watch for birds preparing for the night, such as the African Wood Owl and the Standard-winged Nightjar. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 21: Transfer to Murchison falls National Park

Start your day with a hearty breakfast at the lodge. Thereafter, check out from your current accommodation and ensure all belongings are packed and embark on the journey to Murchison Falls National Park. Enroute, you will go on 2–4-hour bird watching Kaniyo pabidi forest in Bundongo. The bird species to look out for here include; Puvels Illadopsis, which is common here, other birds include; chestnut wattle eye, Litle greenbul, Dwarf and Pygmy kingfisher, Grey Apalis, forest Sunbird and horn bills as well as Green-breasted pitta can also be recorded here.
After, you will have lunch and then continue with the journey to Murchison falls national park.

Day 22: Morning Delta boat cruise and Birding on the Savannah grass land.

Have morning breakfast by 6:30 am, thereafter, connect to Paraa jetty for moaning private boat ride to the Delta area the boar rakes about 4-5 hours where you will be able to see bird species. The cruise offers you a touch of the world’s longest river as it slows down while entering Lake Albert. This offers a great opportunity anywhere in Africa to see the shoe bill stork. The papyrus swamp searching for the lungfish and the bay crocodiles.
Other bird species sighted here include; Goliath heron, the weird Piapiac, the regal Grey crowned-crane, African fish eagle, Senegal Thick-knee, Spur-winged Lapwings, African Jacana, African Skimmers and Giant, Pied and Malachite Kingfishers, Saddle-bellied stork among others.
O a lucky day, you will se the rare Red-necked Falcon, Pel’s Fishing-Owl that frequent the palm trees lining the riverbanks. In addition to bird species, you will also encounter several animal species including the crocodiles, Hippos, Elephants, Waterbucks and Buffalos at a close range.
Have a delicious lunch at your lodge
In the evening, you will go on game drive in search for the birds like the Abyssinia ground hornbill, Secretary Bird, Black-bellied Bustard, Denham’s Bustard and Heuglin’s Francolin, Black-breasted Snake-Eagles, Dark Chanting-Goshawk, Black-headed Lapwing and Black-backed Cisticola among others. Dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.

Day 23: Birding in the park and afternoon Hike to the top of the falls.

Have morning breakfast and after, drive to the park for bird watching on the Savanna plains to explore the park diverse landscapes and discover its hidden treasures. You will explore the savannah as well as the acacia tress and the plentiful Borassus Palm where you will spot several bird species. Abyssinia ground hornbill, Secretary Bird, Black-bellied Bustard, Denham’s Bustard and Heuglin’s Francolin, Black-breasted Snake-Eagles, Dark Chanting-Goshawk, Black-headed Lapwing and Black-backed Cisticola among others. Return to the lodge for lunch and brief rest.
In the afternoon, you will go on the hike to the top of the Murchison falls for yet another exciting bird watching experience. This is the most powerful water fall in the world. You will witness the Nile squeezing through 7m narrow gorge and dropping to about 45m down with thunderous roar.
Here you will chance of spotting the bird like the Pel’s fishing Owl, Red-winged grey warbler, Chest-net crowned. After, drive back to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 24: Transfer to Mabira forest Reserve

Birding in Mabira Forest can be a truly rewarding experience due to its rich biodiversity and the variety of bird species that inhabit the area. Mabira Forest is located in central Uganda, covering an area of about 300 square kilometers.
Some popular trails include the Griffin Falls Trail, the Red-Tailed Monkey Trail, and the Nature Wal Mabira Forest encompasses various habitats, including primary and secondary forest, swampy areas, and open clearings. Explore different parts of the forest to maximize your chances of encountering a diverse range of bird species. Keep an eye out for common bird species such as African Emerald Cuckoo, Grey Parrot, Great Blue Turaco, Black-and-white Casqued Hornbill, and Yellow-mantled Weaver, among others, some of the rare and endemic bird species, including the Nahan’s Francolin and the Tit Hylia. While sightings of these species are less common, they add to the excitement of birding in the forest. Dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.

Day 25: Morning birding in Mbaira forest and Departure

Early morning is usually the best time for birdwatching as birds are most active during this time, singing and foraging for food. Additionally, the forest tends to be quieter, allowing for better bird sightings. Mabira Forest has several well-maintained trails that offer excellent birding opportunities.
After morning breakfast, you will head to the forest for more bird watching. Look for the bird species that you could have missed during the previous day. Bird species include; Forest Woodhoopoe, Yellow-mantled Weaver, Tit Hylia Blue-breasted Kingfisher, Grey Parrot, Black-and-white Casqued Hornbill, Nahan’s Francolin, African Emerald Cuckoo, Yellow-throated Tinkerbird, Great Blue Turaco. You will have lunch at the lodge and check out and transfer to Entebbe where you will be dropped off for your departure flight back home.
