The 2 days Nyiragongo hiking takes you to Nyiragongo Mountain which is the most active volcano in the whole world and it’s situated in North West of Democratic Republic of Congo. The mountain has an elevation of 3470 lying with in virunga national park in Rwanda. The mountain is one of world’s active volcanoes with smoke and beautiful fire flames viewed every day but for best observation are at night.

Nyiragongo mountain eruption between 1882, 1977, 1994 and 2002 with lava flowing to Lake Kivu, the eruption killed many people and left many injured and homeless.

2 Days Nyiragongo Hiking Safari: Detailed Itinerary

Day 1: Nyiragongo Hiking to the Summit

The driver will pick you up from the hotel which is in Gisenyi town very early in the morning. He will drive through Goma town to Virunga national park headquarters for briefing and you will be given a well-knowledgeable guide. You will set off with hiking at 10:30am if you use kibati starting point, it takes around 5 hours to reach the summit of Nyiragongo Mountain. You will pass in a steep, muddy and slippery route, thorns and tall trees will be on the way.

Upon arrival at the summits dinner and accommodation at the mountain camp tents.

Day 2: Descending to the bottom and transferring back to Kigali International Airport

After your memorable breakfast from Nyiragongo summit, you will start sloping down at 6:30 am to the bottom where you will find your driver waiting to transfer you to Kigali international airport to catch up with your flight back home.
