Madagascar boasts a vibrant tropical climate. Winter and summer unfold in contrasting rhythms across Europe and North America. From November to April, expect the heat and the rains to create a vibrant atmosphere, while May to October brings a refreshing mildness that invites exploration. There are, however, vast differences across regions. The highlands of the interior offer a refreshing coolness and a drier atmosphere compared to the coastal regions. The eastern region experiences abundant rainfall, while the southwest sees a stark contrast with minimal precipitation.

Antananarivo sits majestically in the heart of Madagascar’s central highlands. Andasibe-Mantadia, which includes Analamazaotra NP and Mantadia NP, along with Ranomafana NP, are among the most renowned parks in the country, sharing a comparable climate. The eastern region of Madagascar, home to Masoala NP, Palmarium Reserve, and Nosy Mangabe SR, sees increased rainfall and can be influenced by seasonal cyclones. The western region of the country experiences a distinct contrast between its dry spells and the refreshing wet periods. The parks in this region, such as Ankarafantsika, Bemaraha NP, Ankarana SR, and Kirindy Forest, are brimming with excitement and exploration opportunities. The southwest of the island is the driest and hottest region, featuring Berenty PR, Ifotaka Forest, Tsimanampetsotsa NP, and Cap Sainte Marie SR. Nosy Be, Madagascar’s most sought-after beach destination, boasts a warm, tropical climate throughout the year, accompanied by frequent rain showers from December to March.

Dry Season – May to October – Winter

The air is refreshing and the moisture is minimal. Rain comes and goes unpredictably. July brings a refreshing vibe with an average high of 21°C/69°F and a cozy low of 10°C/50°F.

May – This is a month brimming with possibilities. The rain begins to fade away. Afternoons bring a pleasant warmth, reaching 24°C/75°F, while the evenings and early mornings offer a refreshing chill at around 13°C/55°F.

June, July, August & September – In July, the daytime brings a pleasant 22°C/72°F, while the nights turn crisp at 11°C/52°F. Rain is a rare occurrence here.

October – The air begins to embrace a gentle warmth, reaching an average daytime temperature of 26°C/79°F. Nights are pleasantly mild at 14°C/57°F. The month brings a surge of rain at certain times.

Rainy Season–November to April –Warm Season

The Wet season months bring a warm and humid atmosphere, yet the altitude ensures that it never becomes excessively hot in the interior. Frequent rain showers make waterproof clothing a must-have. The average daytime temperatures hover around 27°C/81°F.

November – The start of the rainy season is upon us, so be sure to pack your waterproof gear. The temperature rises slightly, with daytime highs hitting 27°C/81°F.

December, January, February – As December arrives, the rainy season truly begins, bringing with it days filled with intense downpours. The air is warm and thick with humidity.

As March and April roll in, the rain begins to ease, though March may still surprise you with its downpours. As April arrives, the air begins to cool. During the day, temperatures reach about 26°C/79°F, while at night, they settle around 15°C/59°F.
