At what age are gorillas fully grown?
At what age are gorillas fully grown? Gorillas typically reach full physical maturity around 12 to 15 years of age. However, they may continue to develop in terms of strength, size, and social status up to about 20 years old.
- Males: Male gorillas, also known as silverbacks once they mature, usually start to show signs of sexual maturity around 10 to 12 years, but they may not fully reach their adult size or take on the dominant role in a group until they are around 15 years old or older. Some males may grow until they’re about 20 years old.
- Females: Female gorillas typically reach sexual maturity around 6 to 8 years old and are considered fully grown by 10 to 12 years old. They usually stop growing in height by this time, though they may still fill out in terms of body mass.
The growth rate of gorillas is slower compared to humans, and their bones and other physical features take time to fully mature.
