3 Day Sossusvlei Dunes Safari tour
Day 1: Swakopmund to Sesriem, Namibia
At approximately noon, embark on this Budget Safari to Namibia’s Sossusvlei Dunes from Swakopmund.
Our path traverses the Kuiseb River, which intermittently meanders through the Kuiseb Canyon. We make a pit halt for lunch and also pass through the small hamlet of Solitaire. Our campsite at Sesriem, situated in close proximity to the Naukluft Mountain Range, is reached by driving through the Namib Desert. Upon our arrival in the late afternoon, we extend our legs and observe the expansive arid landscapes that surround us before embarking on a stroll. We walk into the nearby Naukluft mountains and gaze out at the vast Namib Desert, which is characterized by its intense colors and shifting shadows, as the sun sets.
The guide prepares dinner for us at the camp, and we gaze at the star-studded desert heavens. Permanent tents with en-suite toilets are furnished with adobe and canvas.
Day 2: Sesriem & Sossusvlei Dunes, Namib Nauklauft Park
We are up before the dawn, arriving at the entrance to the Namib-Naukluft National Park in time for sunrise. Lunch and dinner will be provided.
We observe the arid landscape as the sun illuminates it as we drive through the national park, observing the changing colors. At the parking area, we transition to the 4×4 shuttle for the final leg to the renowned Sossusvlei Dunes. We are afforded the opportunity to appreciate the orange-red dunes in the mild morning light upon our arrival at the striking dunes early in the day. This is one of Namibia’s most remarkable features, featuring tall ochre dunes and striking contrasts under expansive skies. While strolling through Sossusvlei, you will be enveloped by some of the world’s tallest sand dunes.
We continue our journey from Sossusvlei to the adjacent Dead Vlei, which is also located within the Namib-Naukluft Park. Dead Vlei is a white, clay pan that is dotted with dead trees, which are in striking contrast to the sun-bleached earth and red-orange dunes that surround the dry pan. You have the option of returning to the vehicle or boarding the 4×4 shuttle after viewing this peculiar and photogenic desert highlight. This is followed by a halt at Dune 45, the most renowned landmark dune. You have the opportunity to ascend the dune and take in the breathtaking views of the desert, or you can unwind at the base of this emblematic peak.
The desert adventure proceeds from the renowned dunes to Sesriem Canyon. We embark on a journey through this narrow canyon, where the precipitous walls are adorned with layer upon layer of ancient sedimentary rock. Occasionally, the canyon floor is adorned with pools of water that are sufficiently deep to allow for a refreshing plunge. Departing the Sesriem Canyon, we return to the lodge to witness a breathtaking sunset over the arid plains and hills.
- Accommodation: Accommodation is provided in permanent tents with en-suite toilets or twin share rooms at a lodge located near Sesriem.
- Meal Plan: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner
Day 3: Sesriem to Windhoek
In the tranquil desert, awaken and enjoy breakfast at the isolated retreat. Then, we proceed to Solitaire, where we visit the Na’ankuse Namib Conservation Centre to observe cheetahs with the resident biologist. Following our encounter with the cheetah, we ascend to Bullsport and Rehoboth, traversing the plateau and hills to reach Windhoek.
This afternoon, our Namibia Budget Safari to Sossusvlei Dunes concludes in Windhoek, with transportation to the airport, transit station, or your post-safari lodge.
