1 Day Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Tour: Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer from Kampala to Lake Victoria boat ride to Ngamba Island
The exact time for the morning session and the afternoon session of the Ngamba Island chimpanzee day excursion are 7:00 am and 11:00 am, respectively. After a briefing, meet with our driver guide and depart for Lake Victoria. We will board a speed boat in Lake Victoria and travel by water for around 45 minutes before arriving at the Ngamba island.
As you go along the water, you will come across many local fishermen with their native fishing equipment, making it a worthwhile trip for everyone who has always wanted to see how Lake Victoria looks. You will see several different bird species on the lake along the journey, including cattle egrets and cormorants.
As you touch down on Ngamba Island, you take in the fantastic view of the chimpanzee island and begin spotting monitor lizards along the island’s waters as well as a variety of bird species that come to feed along the water banks, including singing black headed weavers, spur winged lapwings, African open billed storks, Sacred ibis, Egyptian goose, yellow billed dark, kingfishers, and possibly fishing eagles.
Then you will be driven or transported to the visitors center, where you will learn about the history of Ngamba Island’s chimpanzee sanctuary and the various activities you will participate in there.
You will then be given a cup of tea, and from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, the chimpanzee carers will lead you to an elevated platform where you may see the chimpanzees dining up close.
Additionally, you may watch the various chimpanzee activities while they eat, play, and relax. On the island, you may see a variety of bird species as well as various plant and tree types.
After the chimpanzee feeding, which takes place from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, you will be shown the island’s various centers, including the chimpanzee food store. The chimpanzee caretaker discusses how to feed chimpanzees properly and what kinds of food are offered to them. Only a few fruits, including pineapples, oranges, tomatoes, apples, watermelons, passion fruits, jackfruits, carrots, cabbage, and cassava, are provided by the management, which may not be enough for the chimpanzees given their foraging activities in the forest.
Additionally, you will visit the chimpanzee clinic where you will learn about how to care for the animals, the different sorts of treatments available, and their current state of health.
You will assist in the food preparation task as one of the behind-the-scenes activities for the afternoon attendees under the supervision of a caregiver. At 11:45 a.m. for the morning session, you will board a speed boat and head back to dry ground. Those participating in the afternoon session must board their boat by 4:00 p.m.
We set out on our return trip in the evening, but we plan to stop at the equator along the way to study how the boat will be pushed by the pressures of the south and north poles, which will try to keep it stationary. If the equator is crossed, it can be seen that the boat’s engine tends to need a little more power to cross it.
If you want to go swimming, this is the appropriate place to do it. You will have a few minutes to enjoy the activity before continuing on your adventure. Our driver will be there to pick you up and take you to your accommodation in Entebbe or Kampala as you plan for your flight back. This marks the end of you 1 day Ngamba Island chimpanzee tour.
