Bwindi Impenetrable National Park Birds
Tourists can not only visit Bwindi Impenetrable National Park for gorilla trekking but also for birding because this park is also a haven for birders and therefore every tourist who loves birding should include Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in their itinerary because this park has one of the best montane-forest bird watching area in Africa.
It is approximated that Bwindi Impenetrable National park has about 350 different species of birds with 14 of these species not seen anywhere else in Uganda. The Albertine rift also has 23 unique bird type such as Neumann’s warbler and the blue-headed sun bird and note that this Albertine rift has 90% of all the Albertine rift endemics.
When it comes to the spots for birding, the major spots are the Buhoma waterfall trail, the Mubwindi swamp trail and the bamboo zone.
The best time for birding or bird viewing in Bwind Impenetrable National Park is in the month of March and September but note that birding is generally good throughout the year in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. June and July has the least amount of rainfall received as compared to March till mid-May which has the highest amount of rainfall received in this national park. Therefore tourists must note that these heavy rains may lead to difficulty in crossing the roads and thus delaying because of the impassable roads and it also makes the hiking trails slippery which can lead to limiting ones bird watching time.
Nesting is mainly in the month of of May and June with food being plenty from the end of May through September.
Note that although migrating birds are not a significant attraction in this park to the birders, they are always present from the month of of November to April.
