What Is The Best Way To Travel To The Mountain Gorillas?
Uganda and Rwanda regions for’ Gorilla Tracking’ main roads are generally in better shape/condition just a little slow though. So 4*4-wheel drive vehicles are ever recommended for specific routes especially in seasons with rain pouring.
From Kampala / Entebbe – Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is roughly 8hrs drive by road. This drive gives you a wide view of African life in areas/ places you come passing through, proceed through the magnificent green Pearl of Africa, cross the Equator (where if time allows can stopover and take photos)
Another alternative is flying from Entebbe to Bwindi of which a round trip Air ticket costs $450 specifically with the Aerolink Uganda in about 11/2hrs. You will fly over the Lake Victoria Islands in the south-western Uganda. Transfer from Kisoro Airstrip or Kihihi is about 30mins-1hr, depending on your choice to trek gorillas from.
If you’re so time conscious and do not enjoy long road drive, a Flight to Rwanda (Kigali) and a short road drive are the best alternatives to be considered. The Road drive to Ruhengeri (Virunga) Volcanoes National Park, where Rwanda’s Mountain gorillas reside is 2hrs from Kigali city (Rwanda’s capital) on roads in good condition. It is very possible to have a flight to Kigali, then drive across the border to see Mountain gorillas in Uganda. All these idles work for you and take less time compared to driving from Kampala.
