Zarafa Camp - Overview
Overview of Zarafa Camp Botswana, Okavango Delta
While it features just four pristine tents accommodating eight guests at once, Zarafa Camp has anticipated every need: each spacious tent comes with personal Swarovski binoculars, a powerful Nikon telescope for stargazing, a warm gas fire for chilly evenings, and a Canon 5D SLR camera to capture the fleeting beauty of a rare red lechwe or African skimmers in flight. Imagine private plunge pools, indoor and outdoor showers, and those charming 1940s crank phones for placing drink orders…
The opulence here is enhanced by Zarafa Camp’s dedication to sustainability. The solar farm generates power, waste is transformed into ‘bio gas’ for cooking, and the tents are made from canvas and reclaimed hardwoods. Even their elevated platforms have been constructed from reclaimed 100-year-old teak railway sleepers.
The intimate nature of Zarafa Camp allows for a wonderfully flexible schedule, enabling guests to create their own timetable and harmonize with the rhythms of wildlife. Completely ‘unplugged’, its setting on the remote Zibalianja Lagoon in the Selinda Reserve offers breathtaking opportunities to encounter elephants, diverse antelope species, and exhilarating predators like African wild dogs and cheetahs. It’s easy to see why ‘Zarafa’ translates to ‘beloved’ or ‘lovely one’ in Arabic.

Opulent Canvas Retreat
At Zarafa Camp, you will find yourself in a spacious ‘marquis-style’ canvas-and-wood tent, nestled beneath the refreshing shade of ebony and red ivory trees. Each of the four tents features inviting lounge areas complete with a desk and a cozy gas fireplace. The en suite bathrooms boast double vanities, stunning copper claw-foot tubs, and both indoor and outdoor showers for a refreshing experience. From your spacious shaded verandah, meander over to your private plunge pool for a refreshing dip. Tents come equipped with yoga mats, Nikon telescopes, Canon cameras, and Swarovski binoculars, ready for exploration and discovery.
Common Amenities
The main tent – alive with deep reds, rich browns, and warm coppers – features a snug lounge, a well-stocked library, and a stylish bar and dining area. The expansive viewing decks offer breathtaking vistas of the Zibalianja Lagoon – perfect for snagging that quintessential ‘laughing hippo’ photo.
Zarafa Camp features an exciting ‘jungle gym’ for fitness enthusiasts and a carefully curated memento shop, allowing you to bring a slice of Botswana back with you. As night falls, snuggle up beside the crackling fire pit and listen closely for the far-off sounds of a lion pride’s roar.
The 4×4’s have been specially modified for photographers, and the pontoon’s deck offers an ideal spot to spend a leisurely afternoon fly-fishing, birdwatching (keep an eye out for black egrets, relatives of the common white egrets), or simply unwinding with refreshing sundowners.
Dining Zarafa Camp offers a dynamic dining experience, prioritizing the desires of its guests while celebrating fresh ingredients and vibrant flavors. Meals can include brunch, afternoon tea, and a 3-course dinner, or a hearty picnic savored during an all-day game drive. We can cater to vegans, children, and other unique requests with ease.
