Detailed 10-Day Classic Uganda Safari Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive in Entebbe – Uganda
Begin your Classic Uganda Safari in Entebbe, where you’ll be transferred from the international airport to the Best Western Premier Garden Hotel. This modern hotel is ideally located near Lake Victoria and local attractions like the Botanical Gardens and Victoria Mall. Spend the day unwinding with a stroll, exploring local craft markets, or enjoying a sunset boat cruise on Lake Victoria.
Day 2: Fly to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park
Catch a scheduled flight from Entebbe to Kihihi Airstrip and transfer through scenic mountain roads to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park – one of the most biodiverse regions in Africa. Home to nearly half of the world’s remaining mountain gorillas, Bwindi is a highlight of any Classic Uganda Safari. Overnight at Buhoma Lodge, located inside the park with panoramic forest views.
Day 3: Gorilla Trekking in Bwindi Forest
Today is the most thrilling part of your Classic Uganda Safari: mountain gorilla trekking. Venture into the thick rainforest, led by expert guides, to track one of the habituated gorilla families. Once located, spend a magical hour observing these majestic primates. Return to Buhoma Lodge for a relaxing evening and optional complimentary massage.
Day 4: Transfer to Ishasha, Queen Elizabeth National Park
Journey south to Ishasha, a remote sector of Queen Elizabeth National Park famous for its tree-climbing lions. En route, visit a community project near Ishasha Village. Enjoy an afternoon game drive and overnight at the eco-friendly Ishasha Wilderness Camp, nestled along the Ntungwe River.
Day 5: Game Viewing in Ishasha
Explore the Ishasha plains in search of elephants, antelopes, and the unique tree-climbing lions. End the day with a bush sundowner and spend another night at the idyllic Ishasha Wilderness Camp.
Day 6: Mweya Sector, Queen Elizabeth National Park
Head north to the Mweya sector of the park, famous for its crater lakes and scenic landscapes. In the afternoon, enjoy a leisurely boat cruise on the Kazinga Channel, a wildlife hotspot home to hippos, crocodiles, buffalo, and abundant birdlife. Overnight at the stunning Elephant Plains Lodge overlooking Lake Kikorongo.
Day 7: Chimpanzee Trekking in Kyambura Gorge
Descend into Kyambura Gorge – the ‘Valley of the Apes’ – for an unforgettable chimpanzee trekking experience. Encounter these intelligent primates in their natural habitat, along with monkeys and colorful bird species. Return to Elephant Plains Lodge for your overnight stay.
Day 8: Transfer to Kibale Forest National Park
Following a morning game drive, travel to Kibale Forest, renowned for having the highest density of primates in Africa. Guests on the 8-day itinerary depart via Mweya Airstrip. Those continuing the full 10-day Classic Uganda Safari settle in at Primate Lodge, conveniently located at the start of the chimpanzee tracking trail.
Day 9: Chimpanzee Trekking & Bigodi Wetland Walk
Go chimpanzee trekking in the lush Kibale Forest. Once you find a troop, spend an hour observing their behaviors and social interactions. Later, explore the Bigodi Wetland Sanctuary, home to over 200 bird species and diverse primate life. Return to Primate Lodge for your final night in the forest.
Day 10: Return to Entebbe – End of Safari
Drive back to Entebbe for your onward flight, marking the end of your unforgettable Classic Uganda Safari. Optional extra nights and excursions can be arranged, including visits to Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary or white-water rafting in Jinja.
