Amboseli National Park

Amboseli National Park

where-is-Amboseli-National-Park-located

One of Kenya’s safari icons, Amboseli National Park is a world of large-tusked elephants and big cats (lions, and occasionally cheetahs), all set against the backdrop of Africa’s highest mountain, Mt Kilimanjaro. The park is visually appealing and compact, with a diverse array of wildlife, such as flamingos and an easily accessible hyena sanctuary. In the early morning or late afternoon, when the clouds part to disclose Kilimanjaro’s summit, there is a genuine safari magic in the air.

Wildlife in Amboseli National Park

Four of the Big Five are present in Amboseli, which provides excellent opportunities for wildlife observation. Leopards are seldom observed, and rhinos are nonexistent; however, elephant herds traverse the marshy marshes at the park’s core with consistent frequency. Buffalo, wildebeest, plains zebra, and gazelle are all prevalent. Lions are the most readily identifiable of the large animals; however, cheetahs are also feasible.

Scenery

Amboseli is truly majestic when it is at its most pristine, and the park’s remarkable wildlife is a direct result of the stunning combination of habitats and landscapes. Amboseli is situated in a vast basin that is characterized by the presence of deep-green swamps in the park’s center, acacia forest stands in the east, and expansive savannah grasslands that extend to distant hills and mountains. To the south, the park is dominated by the majestic Mt Kilimanjaro, which is actually located in Tanzania.

Activities in Amboseli National Park

The primary activity in Amboseli is the escorted game drive, which will transport you throughout the park in search of wildlife and birds. Hot-air ballooning is an exceptional alternative. It is an extraordinary experience to soar over the park at dawn, with the expectation that Mt. Kilimanjaro remains unobscured by clouds. Observation Hill is the sole location where vehicles are permitted to be parked. Climb it on foot and savor a picnic with breathtaking vistas.

Climate and Weather

The temperature in Amboseli is typically around 28°C/82°F during the day, and it does not drop much below 15°C/59°F at night. The Wet season (November to May) is characterized by the highest temperatures, with February being exceptionally scorching. The Dry season (June to October) is characterized by a slight decrease in temperature.

Best Time to Visit Amboseli National Park

The most favorable times to visit are the two drier periods of the year: January to February (during the area’s short and lengthy periods of rainfall) and June to October (during the Dry season proper). The animals are unable to conceal themselves in the sparse vegetation, and rain will not disrupt your game drive. Nevertheless, the site experiences significant crowds during these hours. The optimal period for birdwatching is from December to March.
