Wildlife in Madagascar
Exciting Encounters with Nature
Madagascar is a land where the thrill of exploration is heightened by the absence of many predators. The island’s most formidable predator is the elusive fossa. Though it is common, it is seldom observed, except in Kirindy Forest where a few familiar individuals can be easily found. Much smaller yet just as elusive is the spotted fanaloka, a creature that reveals itself only under the cover of night. Many parks host a variety of lemur species, yet the elusive indri, famous for its haunting call that echoes like a wailing infant, can only be found in a limited area of eastern rainforest.
Optimal Moments for Observing Wildlife
Wildlife viewing in Madagascar offers excitement and discovery all year round. In theory, the Wet season from November to April is ideal as certain animals exhibit increased activity during this time. From January to March, the Wet season reaches its peak, and certain lodges may close during this period. Considering the overall travel conditions, the shoulder months of April, May, October, and November are the ideal times for experiencing wildlife encounters.
