The climate in most of Mozambique is vibrant and inviting. From May to October, the atmosphere shifts into a drier, cooler phase, while from November to April, it transforms into a vibrant, humid period filled with warmth. The Dry season aligns with winter, while the Wet season coincides with summer, occurring at the opposite times of the year compared to Europe, North America, and Asia. The beaches are enchanting all year round, with the occasional brief storms making their appearance from December to March.
Inhambane’s Climate in Relation to Mozambique’s Beaches & Parks
Inhambane is a vibrant coastal town located in the southern part of Mozambique. The warm subtropical climate captures the essence of much of the country, showcasing a delightful range of regional differences. Similar to Inhambane, the entire coastline experiences some rainfall throughout the year, with significantly more during the Wet season from November to April. Reserves and parks in the interior, like Niassa Special Reserve and Limpopo National Park, often experience a complete lack of moisture during the Dry season (May to October). The north coast of the country experiences a greater intensity of heat and humidity compared to the south. The amount of rainfall in Gorongosa National Park surpasses that of Inhambane.
Dry Season – May to October – The time of winter
The Dry season experiences minimal rainfall and low humidity. Creatures of the wild converge around waterholes and other enduring sources of water.
May – This marks the conclusion of summer. The mornings greet you with a refreshing chill at around 18°C/64°F, while the afternoons warm up to a pleasant 27°C/81°F. The evening air begins to cool down. Rainfall is scarce.
June, July & August – The typical morning temperature is 16°C/61°F. Pack cozy attire for those brisk morning game drives in open vehicles. Afternoons promise to be delightful, with temperatures hovering around 26°C/79°F.
As September and October roll in, the warmth begins to embrace the days. The initial downpours will offer a refreshing respite in the heart of the land. In October, expect daytime temperatures to hover around a pleasant 28°C/82°F.
Rainy Season–November to April – Warm Season
This time of year brings challenges for travelers due to the heavy rains. A 4×4 vehicle is crucial since the road conditions can change unexpectedly.
November – This month is full of surprises. Some afternoons, the skies open up and rain begins to fall. The mornings greet you with a pleasant 21°C/70°F, while the afternoons warm up to a lively 29°C/84°F.
December, January, February & March – These months are marked by intense rainfall, featuring heavy downpours in the afternoons. The air is warm at about 31°C/88°F, and the humidity adds an extra layer of intensity.
April – The rains are tapering off and the temperatures are beginning to cool down. The evenings are starting to take on a crisp chill.
