Ruzizi Tented Lodge - Overview
Overview of Ruzizi Tented Lodge
Rwanda, Akagera National Park
Ruzizi Tented Lodge boasts a breathtaking waterside setting at Lake Ihema and stands as one of just three lodges nestled within Akagera National Park. This vibrant wilderness area embodies Rwanda’s remarkable and swift progress in conservation, and with the reintroduction of rhino, Akagera will once more welcome the Big 5.
The park is a picturesque journey from the capital city, Kigali, providing an ideal chance to encounter savannah wildlife following an exhilarating gorilla or chimp trekking adventure. Among the nation’s three national parks, this one stands out for its remarkable variety of landscapes, featuring freshwater lakes, marshes, papyrus swamps, expansive plains, towering mountains, and lush woodlands. Wildlife highlights encompass hippos, frequently seen and heard in the waters near the lodge, leopards, the most commonly spotted predators, lions, side-striped jackals, the elusive blue monkey, elephants, the endangered Masai giraffe, buffalo, zebras, and a variety of antelope species, including the rare sitatunga.
Birding in the park offers an extraordinary experience with 482 recorded species – observe African fish eagles and kingfishers soaring above the lake in front of the lodge, and embark on a quest to discover the uniquely fascinating shoebill stork and papyrus gonolek (both found in papyrus swamps), as well as the endemic red-faced barbet and swamp flycatcher.
The eco-conscious and down-to-earth tented lodge is cozy and inviting, where you will be greeted with warm and friendly service from the team. There are a variety of thrilling activities to experience, including boating trips, an exclusive ‘behind the scenes’ tour of the park headquarters, game drives, night drives, guided walks, and community visits.
