The Retreat - Overview
Summary of The Retreat
Kigali, Rwanda
The Retreat stands out as Kigali’s premier boutique hotel, a remarkable collaboration between Italian architects and skilled Rwandan craftsmen and artisans. In the heart of the capital, this chic combination of stone and teak offers a serene escape from one of Africa’s most vibrant modern cities and serves as a comforting sanctuary after a long-haul flight or an exhilarating gorilla trek.
Powered by sunshine to reduce its environmental footprint, The Retreat cares deeply for both the planet and the wellbeing of its guests. A vast saltwater swimming pool awaits for invigorating swims, complemented by yoga, meditation, and personal fitness classes that invite exploration and growth. The spa will take you on a journey to refine your outer self through invigorating massage and rejuvenating beauty therapies.
The laid-back eatery – perfectly titled, Heaven – offers an array of vibrant local ingredients transformed into exquisite international fare like Nile perch, cassava chimichurri, mango panna cotta, and African coffee ice cream. For an exquisite dining experience that draws inspiration from the flavors of Italy, Morocco, and Mauritius, be sure to secure a reservation at Fusion, where you can enjoy stunning views of the serene pool and the vibrant greenery of the native garden.

Exquisite Pool Villa
The Luxury Pool Villa is expansive and welcoming. It features a private salt water solar heated plunge pool, charming front and back gardens, and a fully furnished living room area. The bathrooms radiate opulence with double sinks adorned with teak vanities, a sumptuous bathtub, and an invigorating indoor rain shower. Two Luxury Pool Villas can be connected through a garden gate. All Luxury Pool Villas can be arranged with either a King bed or Twin bed configuration.
Majestic King Suite
The Superior King Suites invite you to experience the best of both worlds, featuring two patios and the unique option of indoor and outdoor showers. The en suite bathrooms feature double sinks, and the rooms are bright and spacious, enhanced by vibrant touches from traditional Rwandan fabrics.
Two of the suites are linked together, perfect for friends or groups seeking shared experiences. Two can be arranged as twin beds instead of a double.
Deluxe King Suite
The coziest of the rooms at The Retreat, these feature private patios, single vanities in the en suite bathroom, and indoor rain showers that invite relaxation. Two units perfect for families or groups journeying together.
General Amenities
Guests’ comfort has been thoughtfully prioritized at The Retreat. Wellness is elevated through a dedicated spa and gym that provides private classes, yoga, and meditation sessions. The saltwater swimming pool is nestled amidst stunning gardens.
The staff can organize an extensive range of tours and activities, such as horse riding, art lessons at the Niyo Arts Gallery, crafts with the Nyamirambo Women’s Centre, and explorations of Kigali’s main attractions.
Dining experiences
The dining experience at The Retreat is truly exceptional, featuring two remarkable restaurants on site in Kigali. Heaven and Fusion both sourced fresh produce from leading Rwandan suppliers and gathered fruits, vegetables, and herbs from The Retreat’s own organic garden. The vistas from Heaven showcase the beauty of Kigali.
Heaven provides a laid-back atmosphere, while Fusion presents an elegant dining experience. Both feature extensive a la carte menus that highlight delightful local ingredients such as ikivuguto (buttermilk), cassava, Rwandan macadamia nuts, Nile perch, tilapia, peanuts, and akara fritters.
