The Selous Game Reserve is a protected area in southern Tanzania, spanning vast expanses of land that cover approximately 50,000 square kilometers, complemented by an additional buffer zone surrounding the park. Selous Game Reserve stands as the largest Game Reserve in Africa and ranks among the largest in the world.

Selous Game Reserve is celebrated for its vastness, surpassing Switzerland in size and being an astonishing four times larger than Serengeti National Park. Selous Game Reserve earned its status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1982 due to its rich variety of wildlife and pristine natural environment.

Selous Game Reserve boasts an incredible diversity of vegetation, featuring open grasslands, riverine forests, swamps, and Miombo woodlands, all of which create a vibrant habitat for the wildlife that thrives within the Reserve.

Selous Game Reserve boasts a vibrant array of large mammals, including a remarkable population of over 106,300 African elephants. Additionally, it is home to one of the largest known populations of hippopotamuses, with around 18,200 individuals thriving in this wild sanctuary.
